Report: Dennis Siver fails UFC 168 drug test

New, comments

Following two inconclusive test results at UFC 168, reports are coming in that Dennis Siver has been suspended after his B-sample came back positive for hCG.

Uh oh. Looks like Siyar Bahadurzada may want to get a little bit worried. Both Bahadurzada and Siver came up with inconclusive test results following their UFC 168 bouts. The Nevada State Athletic Commission reported at the time that it would be testing the secondary samples for each fighter. Now, Steven Marrocco of MMA Junkie reports that Dennis Siver has tested positive for hCG (or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin). hCG is a common cycling drug to help the body recover from anabolic steroid use. Siver is now under temporary suspension while the commission decides what his ultimate penalty will be.

Siver's last bout resulted in a unanimous decision win over Manny Gamburyan. Most likely that bout will now be flipped to a no contest. As one of the more muscle bound fighters on the UFC roster, this test failure most certainly casts a harsh light over Siver's MMA career. Much like Alistair Overeem, his single test failure could end up serving as something of a condemnation of many of his past successes.

No report is available as of yet for the results on tests of Siyar Bahadurzada's secondary sample. However, Siver's test failure diminishes initial speculation that the first round of inconclusive tests may have been the result of lab error. Bloody Elbow will be sure to keep you updated as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: NSAC Chariman Francisco Aguilar has confirmed that Siyar Bahadurzada's secondary sample came back clean.
