2013 Bloody Elbow WMMA Awards Results: Best Round

The results are in and the Bloody Elbow readers have decided. Your winner for WMMA Round of the year is ...

After a few weeks of voting, and some furious social networking from fighters, the results are finally here.


Winner: Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche - Round 1 (29%) If you wanna watch the fight it's up on daily motion and youtube, I'm not gonna post it here, cause it gets taken down.

Double Digits: Ann Osman vs. Sherilyn Lim - Round 3 (18%), Kaiyana Rain vs. Kailin Curran - Round 1 (11%), Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate II - Round 2 (10%)

Other nominees: Michelle Waterson vs. Jessica Penne - Round 3 (9%), Jessamyn Duke vs. Raquel Pennington - Round 2 (8%), Miesha Tate vs. Cat Zingano - Round 1 (6%), Ronda Rousey vs. Miesha Tate II - Round 1 (6%), Rose Namajunas vs. Tecia Torres - Round 1 (5%), Leslie Smith vs. Sarah Kaufman - Round 2 (3%), Ashlee Evans-Smith vs. Fallon Fox - Round 1 (2%)

My pick: There wasn't a Paul Daley - Nick Diaz round, so this year's round of the year is all about preference. Did you prefer Ronda kind of almost getting submitted or Lim and Osman's back and forth, give it everything you have despite not being technically great round? Are you a striker at heart, and loved the Duke/Pennington fight? Man, I really don't know.

I think it's between Lim/Osman and Curran/Rain for me. I like the multiple changes of positions in Lim/Osman and the throw everything they had despite a definite lack of technique. But, I love violence, and I love survival... and Curran inflicted violence on Rain and she survived. It was Frankie Edgar-Gray Maynard 2 light. I give it to Curran/Rain cause the Japanese ref, Yuji Shumada or whatever his name is (god is he terrible) stood them up the last 30 seconds when Osman had mount, so the final 30 seconds of great action was slightly manufactured. However, again, there's no clear cut winner.
