Lyoto Machida did NOT break his foot against Gegard Mousasi

X-rays have confirmed that Lyoto Machida didn't suffer a broken bone in his UFC Fight Night 36 win over Gegard Mousasi.

Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

Well the UFC may not be sure they want to give former Light Heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida a title shot against the winner of UFC 173's Middleweight title fight, but the path seems clear given the latest news. Machida had feared he broke his foot kicking Mousasi at UFC Fight Night 36 but X-rays have confirmed he did not.

MMA Fighting's Guilherme Cruz broke the news.

While Machida is currently ranked #3 in the official UFC rankings, the #4 MW also picked up a win Saturday in Brazil. I speak, of course of Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza. While Souza didn't exactly set the world on fire in his decision win over Francis Carmont, he is generally considered a more exciting fighter than the unique Machida.

Who would you rather see get the shot at the Weidman/Belfort winner?
