UFC Fight Night 36 is in the books and it was pretty underwhelming overall. I liked the main event, but it was one of the few highlights on a card that featured a whole lot of decisions. It was also light on relevance outside of the middleweight division, so it's tough to see where a few of these guys should go next. But that's my job, so it's what I shall do. Here's who I think each fighter on the main card should face in their next bout.
Lyoto Machida - There's no one else that truly deserves a middleweight title shot, so why not? Give him the winner of the May bout between champion Chris Weidman and challenger Vitor Belfort.
Gegard Mousasi - It's obvious that Mousasi can hang with the top middleweights in the world, but he needs a win in the UFC division to get rolling. A bout with Carmont would make a lot of sense right now, as would a matchup with Mark Munoz.
Ronaldo Souza - While many see him as another viable candidate for a title shot, I think he still needs one more win for that. Wins over Carmont and Okami are impressive, but another scalp would solidify his spot in line behind Machida. There are two options - a rematch with Luke Rockhold (if he gets through Tim Boetsch), or the winner of the bout between Tim Kennedy and Michael Bisping. I prefer the second option.
Francis Carmont - See above. I'd really like to see him fight Mousasi. If not, the loser of the Rockhold/Boetsch fight could make some sense as well.
Erick Silva - He either dominates mid-level competition or gets beaten by top guys, so it's tough to see a good fit for him. The winner of the bout between Rick Story and Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 171 would be a solid test.
Takenori Sato - He certainly didn't show much in his debut at all. A bout with a newcomer on an Asian card is likely what he'll get.
Nicholas Musoke - Musoke overcame a rough start to pick up his second UFC win. He looks like he could be a solid guy at welterweight, and I think a couple of solid options for his next bout would be the winner of the UFC 171 bout between Sean Spencer and Alex Garcia. I'd also really like to see him fight Brandon Thatch, but I think they have bigger plans for him.
Viscardi Andrade - At 1-1, he could face a multitude of different guys. One good option would be Chris Clements.
Charles Oliveira - Oliveira is an interesting case - he has the potential to be a top fighter, but his record against top competition is iffy. A bout with fellow UFC Fight Night 36 winner Iuri Alcantara could be very interesting.
Andy Ogle - At 1-3 in the UFC, he's likely going to be used on UK cards to fill the local quotient. One potential fight could be against fellow TUF Live contestant Sam Sicilia.
