Ten rounds and 50 minutes in, and the scores for Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks are still inseparable. Their second meeting ended in another split decision, but this time, two judges awarded Lawler with the victory and he now walks home as the new UFC welterweight champion.
The bout was close, with most fans and pundits having it with 3 rounds to 2 that could've gone to either fighter. One judge though, gave Lawler an indefensible 49-46 score which has brought another wrinkle to an already closely debated contest.
Check out the official score card above.
Judge Sal D'Amato scored it 48-47 for Hendricks, with him winning rounds 2-4. Judge Marcos Rosales scored it 48-47 Lawler, with Hendricks just winning the 2nd and 3rd stanzas. The most disputed scorecard comes from Glenn Trowbridge as he scored it 49-46 Lawler, with him winning every round except for the 3rd.
D'Amato and Rosales, along with almost every single person watching the fight, gave rounds 2 and 3 to Johny Hendricks. For some reason, what seemed like a clear cut round for Hendricks was scored the other way by Trowbridge.
While not many have a problem with the end result, that scorecard just doesn't seem to make any sense.
