The king is dead. All hail the king. In the Battle of Chute Boxe it was the young (well, kind of) apprentice rising up and taking out his master, as Shogun Rua stomped Wanderlei Silva right out of this tournament. Sorry Axe Murderer - you deserved better. Shogun will now face the formidable Junior dos Santos in the coming round.
With Shogun's victory, we close out the opening round and move on to the Sweet 16. Today, we kick off the round of 16 with a pretty exciting clash between two current UFC champions. #2 seed and Lightweight champion Anthony Pettis takes on #3 seed Welterweight champion Robbie Lawler. Lawler comes in after taking out Nick Diaz handily in our tournament, plus winning the belt out in the real world and picking up some Fighter of the Year accolades. Pettis struggled mightily against Igor Vovchanchyn in the opening round here - he'll need to pick it up if he hopes to get past the sentimental favorite Lawler.
