A big fight announcement has been reported by Ivan Raupp of Globo, and it pertains to the return of former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans. Having been out of action since defeating Chael Sonnen in November 2013, Evans and Glover Teixeira have verbal agreements in place to fight in the main event of UFC Fight Night in Porto Alegre, Brazil on Sunday, February 22nd. As of this writing, the UFC has not formally announced the bout themselves.
Evans (19-3-1) was scheduled to welcome Daniel Cormier to the LHW division last February, but a torn ACL sidelined him for the remainder of 2014. He was lined up as a potential opponent for Alexander Gustafsson in Sweden, but that position went to Anthony Johnson when Evans was unable to go for the January 24th event.
Teixeira (22-4) has lost two straight after previously compiling a 20 fight winning streak stretching as far back as 2006. The Brazilian was dominated in his title fight vs. Jon Jones and then controlled throughout his decision loss vs. Phil Davis at UFC 179 in Rio de Janeiro. It marked the first time the 35-year-old had ever lost consecutive fights.
Other fights reported for this first ever trip to Porto Alegre include Cezar Ferreira vs. Sam Alvey, and Rustam Khabilov vs. Adriano Martins. The night's main card airs on Fox Sports 1.
