Shortly after his dominant win over Cub Swanson, Frankie Edgar took to twitter to state his case for a rematch against Jose Aldo. He referenced nearing a UFC record and linked to an online poll that showed slightly more voters wanted to see him get the next title shot over Conor McGregor:
By my next fight I will have more time in the @ufc octagon than anyone else including gsp and bj. When I'm done I will have every ufc record

The numbers don't lie. I do it with my fighting not my talking. @ufc @danawhite @lorenzofertitta pic.twitter.com/PlaQULhlNG

McGregor of course, isn't one to keep silent on these matters, and he brought up UFC gate numbers:
@FrankieEdgar McGregor Vs Brandao $1.4million. McGregor Vs Poirier $2.2 million. Edgar Vs Cub $640k. #TheREALnumbersDontLie. Conor bless.
— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) November 30, 2014
The numbers of course on the Poirier fight are a bit misleading as it was beefed up by the top billed bouts in Johnson vs. Cariaso and Cerrone vs. Alvarez, but McGregor does have a point.
This is also a business after all, and McGregor will surely be able to draw more eyeballs on a title fight than an Edgar rematch will. If I was in the Fertitta's shoes and Conor defeats Dennis Siver the way people expect him to, I'm cashing in. It will be an easy choice too.
By then, both men will have quality win streaks against top ranked fighters, but only one of them will make the UFC see dollar signs.
