UFN 57 prelims results: Choi and VanZant impress, Edwards loses

New, comments

The first three fights of the UFC Fight Night 57 card are in the books, and none of them went the whole 15 minutes.

The Fight pass prelim bouts that kicked off the UFC Fight Night 57 event were both extremely entertaining. The first main card fight was a bit depressing though, as one of the pioneers at the lighter weights suffered another defeat in the octagon. And it might have been his last appearance in the promotion.

In the opening fight, hyped Korean prospect Doo Ho Choi lived up to expectations, absolutely destroying Juan Puig in just 18 seconds. All it took was one big punch to put Puig down, and a flurry of ground and pound ended his night. Choi improves to 12-1, and he has knocked out his last six opponents.

In the second bout, Paige VanZant made a big statement in the women's strawweight division, battering Kailin Curran in an entertaining bout. The first round was back and forth, but VanZant nearly finished it with some heavy strikes at the end of the stanza. The second was all VanZant, and she eventually got a TKO stoppage in the third at the 2:54 mark.

The first main card bout saw Yves Edwards stepping into the cage for the 21st time, facing off with TUF 15's Akbarh Arreola. Unfortunately for Edwards, Arreola dropped him early and had him hurt for a while before he finally finished the fight with an armbar at the 1:52 mark of the first round. The bout was Yves' fifth loss in a row, though one of those was flipped to a no-contest. Still though, it would seem like his days in the UFC are probably numbered. Thanks for the memories, Yves.
