Invicta FC 9 results: Barb Honchak retains title with decision victory

New, comments

A quick look at the action from Invicta FC 9, headlined by Barb Honchak successfully defending her flyweight title against Takayo Hashi.

Tonight's Invicta 9 card was arguably the worst in the young history of the promotion. The action was extremely limited and the crowd was small enough that they rarely came through on the broadcast, which does help cement the idea of a lack of excitement for a viewer.

The main takeaway may be that the UFC's poaching of the top talent across multiple divisions has put Invicta in a position where their cards--which always ran the risk of being a little thin--are now going to be a struggle to get through at times.

And tonight did feel like a struggle at times. Especially for the last two hours.

In the main event, Barb Honchak outworked Takayo Hashi for a unanimous decision win to retain her flyweight title. While you can't fault Honchak for a successful, winning strategy, it was a boring capper to a mostly boring evening. She used a lot of old school "wall and stall" tactics, putting Hashi's back on the cage and holding her there, doing enough to win the rounds but not much else.

To me, Andrea Lee was the most exciting fighter on the card. She fought aggressively and mean in roughing up Shannon Sinn in the third fight of the night. She's 2-0 now, so it's too early to declare her a future star or anything like that, but she has a style that is very entertaining to watch and is worth keeping an eye on.
