While World Series of Fighting has already suffered from various incidents recently that have negatively affected public perception, the problems continue to pile on for the promotion.
Less than 24 hours ahead of their scheduled WSOF 15 event - one that is expected to go head-to-head against the UFC and Bellator - Xtreme Fighitng Championships announced that they would be filing a lawsuit against WSOF, claiming that Kalindra Faria is still under contract with the promotion.
The Brazilian strawweight is scheduled to take part in one of the two title fights on the card against one of the top strawweights in Jessica Aguilar.
"XFC has an exclusive contract with Ms. Kalindra Faria, which XFC provided to WSOF," XFC said in an official statement (via MMAFighting.com). "Notwithstanding the clear terms of Ms. Faria's exclusive contract with XFC, WSOF has made it clear it intends to proceed with Ms. Faria's bout planned for this weekend."
Faria (15-3) fought twice under the XFC banner but also fought for MMA Super Heros in between those two fights. Her most recent win took place at XFC International 4 in Brazil.
"There is no question that XFC has a valid contract with Ms. Faria and that her fighting in a WSOF match this weekend violates XFC's rights under that contract.
"As a consequence of WSOF's actions, XFC is filing suit against WSOF today in the United States District Court in Tampa. XFC is seeking to enforce its rights to the fullest extent of the law."
According to MMAJunkie.com, WSOF President Ray Sefo has confirmed that Faria will fight Aguilar on Saturday night, and added the WSOF hadn't received a copy of a lawsuit.
