Prior to the thrilling title fight that culminated the UFC 179 fight card in Rio de Janeiro, a lackluster co-main event between Phil Davis and Glover Teixeira was thrust upon UFC fans for their viewing pleasure.

The contest was a lopsided affair that saw Davis return to his roots and drag his Brazilian adversary repeatedly to the mat, where he dominated with his superior wrestling prowess. Eventually, Davis was awarded with a clean sweep on the scorecards.

Official Result: Phil Davis def. Glover Teixeira via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

What was the high point of the fight?

Considering the contest was a tedious affair with very little competitive action, it is hard to determine an exact high point for the fight. Davis maintained full control of the bout from start to finish, which left little room for any entertaining exchanges or submission attempts.

Where do these two go from here?

After suffering a significant setback against Anthony Johnson, Phil Davis is now back in the mix as one of the top light-heavyweights in the UFC. While he is nowhere near title contention, he can continue his upward rise through the ranks with a match-up against the likes of Ryan Bader.

Teixeira, however, is faced with a slightly more dire situation. After embarking on a 20-fight win streak, the Brazilian is now facing a potential three fight skid, which would effectively end his chances of returning to the head of the pack.

Watch now, later, or never?

Watch later. While it was dominant showing from Davis, it was a dull fight with very little substantial action. Davis may have clawed his way back into relevancy in the division, yet he will need far more impressive performances to garner fan attention.
