George Zimmerman agrees to 'celebrity' boxing match under same promoter currently attempting 'tag team boxing'

Mark your calendars for March 1st, as George Zimmerman has agreed to a celebrity boxing match, and they're looking for an opponent!

From the tales of the bizarre and unexpected comes yet another story involving George Zimmerman, the 30-year-old man found not guilty of murdering 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Florida, and who has otherwise had his name plastered on some form of news media since this controversial and racially charged case went to trial. This latest piece has absolutely nothing to do with crime and everything to do with the world of combat sports. Zimmerman will take part in a "celebrity" boxing match on March 1st against an opponent TBD. TMZ has the juicy details:

Celebrity boxing promoter Damon Feldman threw down the challenge, offering George money to step in the ring. Now here's the kicker ... the opponent has NOT been selected.

We're told George is open to fighting a black person, but the promoter is not discriminating, telling us "We're not looking at it as a race thing ... We haven't discussed purple, yellow, white, black."

As for George's cut from the fight, we're told he's donating the money to charity.

I use "celebrity" in the loosest sense of the term.

As amazing and groundbreaking as this story is, this isn't even Damon Feldman's best work this year. Two weeks ago this 100% real press release was sent out for a boxing match featuring former heavyweight boxing champion Tim Witherspoon (age: 56) and pro wrestler The Sandman (age: 50) of ECW fame. Former NFL defensive tackle Hollis Thomas would serve as an "enforcer referee". I'm not joking:

Signed to for the main event, ECW legend Sandman will go against two-time World Heavyweight Boxing champion Tim Witherspoon. They will battle in a 5-round-brawl with the winner crowned the first Heavyweight champion of World Xtreme Entertainment. To insure no cheating ensues, Promoter Damon Feldman has retained the services of former Philadelphia Eagles’ Defensive Tackle Hollis Thomas as the special "enforcer referee".

Feldman, a former Boxer and promoter of high-profile Celebrity Boxing shows, will announce the date and venue of the first event at the press conference. Also, the undercard matches will be revealed. I have several Hollywood actors and athletes signed with this company. This is novelty, combined boxing with intense entertainment.

"For the first time in history, I have a ground-breaking fight," Feldman said. "This is the first time anyone has promoted a tag team rules boxing match! It will be the semi-final match on our spectacular show! Believe me, no one has ever seen anything like this before! We’ll also have to title match for the Xtreme Battling Babes title, and six-other-blockbuster Matches!"

So between the Zimmerman news, "tag team boxing", and this Witherspoon vs. Sandman extravaganza (which apparently will go down on April 12th), Damon Feldman is just chock full of ideas. Just don't assure yourself that either of these things will actually happen, because Feldman has been in trouble in the past for fixing fights and promoting without a license.

We'll keep you up to date on both Zimmerman's opponent, Witherspoon vs. Sandman, and whether or not these cards will feature a raffle.
