You might have heard this before, but the UFC has announced Jon Jones vs. Glover Teixeira as a PPV main event. The UFC's debut show in Baltimore, Maryland will take place on April 26th, and according to the Baltimore Sun (later confirmed by the UFC's various Twitter outlets), Jones/Teixeira will be held inside the Baltimore Arena. Previously, the UFC announced this fight as the main event for UFC 169, 170, and 171, eventually nixing those plans each time.
Jones (19-1) last defended his title against Alexander Gustafsson in the consensus 2013 Fight of the Year. He won a close unanimous decision in the UFC 165 main event in what is unquestionably the toughest bout of his entire career. A win over Teixeira would give him 7 consecutive title defenses, two more than Tito Ortiz's previous record of 5.
Teixeira (22-2) has won 20 straight fights, with 5 of them coming in the UFC. His latest one was a 1st round TKO of Ryan Bader in the main event of UFC Fight Night 29 last September. The Brazilian has finished 4 of his 5 opponents inside the Octagon, with only Quinton Jackson lasting the distance against him.
With Jones already a big favorite in this one, all eyes will be on the March 8th fight between Alexander Gustafsson and Jimi Manuwa. If Gustafsson wins, then all that's left is for Jones to beat Teixeira to set up a likely summer or early fall rematch of their September 2013 classic.
Tickets for this event go on sale February 7th.
