UFC Fight Night 28 results: Glover Teixeira will get the next light heavyweight title shot

Following a 1st round TKO of Ryan Bader, the UFC confirmed that Glover Teixeira will get the next LHW title shot after his 5th successive win in the promotion and 20th straight overall.

Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

It wasn't easy for Glover Teixeira, but in the end the Brazilian light heavyweight knocked out Ryan Bader in the 1st round of tonight's UFC Fight Night main event, improving his UFC record to 5-0 with 4 finishes. Teixeira (22-2) took home a $50,000 "Knockout of the Night" bonus, and in the post-event press conference Marshall Zelaznik confirmed that Teixeira is next in line for the winner of Jon Jones/Alexander Gustafsson:

Teixeira has not lost since a 2005 decision defeat to Ed Herman, and his two UFC top 10 wins have come against Quinton Jackson (who was a top 10 ranked opponent at the time) and now Bader. It's no surprise that given his style, his winning streak, and the fact that the division is filled with fighters coming off of losses and/or vacating to middleweight, he's going to get his title shot.

For now, all Teixeira has to do is sit back and see if he'll be facing the consensus #1 fighter in the world in Jon Jones, or a new UFC champion in Alexander Gustafsson. That fight will take place on September 21st in Toronto at UFC 165.
