Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Pat Healy -- Lightweight bout

Two-time Combat Sambo champion and undefeated MMA fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov crafted the perfect plan for hulking grappler Pat Healy and executed it flawlessly. Healy, a tall, gargantuan-sized lightweight with a grinding clinch and top game, chased after Nurmagomedov from bell to bell. The first few minutes played out as a pivotal battle for momentum as Healy came forward aggressively to close distance while Nurmagomedov circled away and stung with counter-strikes.

The gap in their striking became much more evident late in the first and continued throughout the fight. Healy's best round was the second -- though he couldn't impose takedowns, he was more assertive with his striking, though perhaps out of frustration. He stepped into a couple of stiff jabs and stalked "The Eagle" relentlessly with his left hook and straight right, but Nurmagomedov wisely just started to switch from retreating backward to blasting forward with takedowns when Healy charged in too carelessly. The final frame was punctuated by more takedowns from Nurmagomedov, the most memorable of which saw the young Russian hoist Healy onto his shoulder and jog across the cage before driving him hard to the canvas.

  • Khabib Nurmagomedov defeats Pat Healy by unanimous decision (30-27 x 3)
