Scott Jorgensen dropping to flyweight, will face Ian 'Uncle Creepy' McCall at UFC on Fox 9

Top ten ranked bantamweight Scott Jorgensen will drop to flyweight for his next fight, facing highly ranked Ian 'Uncle Creepy' McCall at UFC on Fox 9.

USA TODAY Sports

Scott Jorgensen may be the No. 7 ranked fighter in the UFC's bantamweight division, but he won't be competing at the 135 pound limit in his next contest. Instead, Jorgensen will be drop to 125 pounds to face Ian McCall on the UFC on Fox 9 fight card.

Jorgensen's (14-7) last fight was a submission loss to Urijah Faber. In his last 12 fights, Jorgensen has gone 8-4. Jorgensen's losses have come to top bantamweights Faber (ranked No. 2), Eddie Wineland (No. 4), Renan Barao (current interim champion) and Dominick Cruz (current champion).

McCall (12-4-1) defeated Iliarde Santos by unanimous decision in his last outing. Prior to that win, McCall was 0-2-1 in the UFC, with losses to Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez.

The draw on McCall's record came against Johnson. The draw was the result of a scoring tabulation error that came to light after Johnson had already been declared the winner by majority decision inside the Octagon. Had the score been tabulated correctly, the two would have fought a fourth round because the fight was part of a tournament to decide the first UFC flyweight champion. Johnson defeated McCall in the rematch and went on to win the UFC flyweight title.

Despite his UFC record, McCall currently holds the No. 3 ranking in the flyweight division. A victory for Jorgensen in this bout, and it's hard to imagine that he would not become an automatic contender for a flyweight title shot.

Jorgensen tweeted about the drop in weight after the UFC announced the fight:

McCall added his take on the booking:

UFC on Fox 9 will take place on December 14 at the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento. UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis will put his title on the line against No. 5 ranked Josh Thomson in the evening's main event.
