In the main event of UFC Fight Night 27, Carlos Condit got his revenge on Martin Kampmann by defeating him in their welterweight rematch. Kampmann controlled the first round with a bunch of takedowns, but Condit turned it up from there on and beat up the Danish fighter. Condit upped the tempo each round until he busted Kampmann's face open and managed to get the TKO finish early in the fourth stanza. The finish came at the 54-second mark of that round.
The two men are now 1-1 against each other, and Condit erased a two-fight losing streak with the win. Kampmann has now lost two in a row, and his chances of staying in the title chase are slipping away.
What was the high point of the fight?
The finish. Condit turned it up with a brutal combination of kicks, knees, and punches that Kampmann took for a while, but eventually had to go down.
Where do they go from here?
Condit maintained his position as a top-five welterweight that (almost) always brings it in his fights. He's out of the title picture for now and a lot of the other top guys are currently tied up, so he's probably going to have to sit and wait to see a couple of results before his next fight is booked. My guess is that it'll come against either the winner of the Rory MacDonald vs. Robbie Lawler bout, or the Demian Maia vs. Jake Shields matchup.
Kampmann has probably fallen into the lower half of the top ten with the loss and even though he's almost always entertaining, I doubt he'll be main-eventing a card again anytime soon. I'd love to see him fight Nick Diaz, but Diaz seems to be on the sidelines for a while. So he might get the loser of one of the above bouts instead.
Watch now, later, or never?
Now. The fight was a lot of fun and pretty brutal. It's definitely worth 16-odd minutes of your time.
