James Krause vs. Sam Stout -- Lightweight bout
Despite drawing a hard-nosed vet in his first UFC outing, southpaw James Krause scored a commanding submission win over Canadian kickboxer Sam Stout. Krause hid himself behind a lengthy assortment of crisp, stinging punches and kicks that Stout struggled to maneuver through. The 27-year-old Krause firmly established his range early with long jabs and a front kick, then smashed a hole over Stout's left eye with a high-wheeling roundhouse kick that connected square with the shin. The gaping wound turned half of Stout's face red and the spillage did him no favors in the task of getting inside on Krause.
The 2nd round was a bit closer, with Stout chopping into Krause's body with a blistering hook right out of the gate. They traded at a fairly even rate on the feet, with Krause hitting a takedown that Stout eventually negated and Stout landing one of his own before the bell.
The flow was again busy and somewhat balanced for most of the 3rd round, but Krause stayed out on the fringe and nipped in with jabs to keep Stout out of rhythm. Stout changed levels for a takedown and Krause tied on a deep guillotine shortly after, then used it to sweep into full mount to get the tap.
- James Krause defeats Sam Stout by submission (guillotine), Round 3.
