John Makdessi out, Rafaello Oliveira fights Edson Barboza at UFC 162

New, comments

Oh no, the injuries will not stop. This time John Makdessi is out of his scheduled fight with Edson Barboza at UFC 162.

Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

The injury news just keeps coming. Perhaps one of the best fights on the UFC 162 preliminary card featured lightweight strikers John Makdessi and Edson Barboza. Last night it was reported by the UFC Brasil twitter account that Makdessi is out with an injury and will be replaced by Rafaello Oliveira:

Oliveira (15-5) went 1-2 in his first UFC run, but was released after a loss to Andre Winner. He returned after a 4 fight winning streak, but he's 1-2 in his latest UFC stint, making him 2-4 overall. "Tractor" did win his last bout against Yoislandy Izquierdo at UFC 148. An injury of his own forced him off of a December clash against Mike Chiesa in Seattle.

Barboza (11-1) recovered nicely from a stunning loss to Jamie Varner at UFC 146 by beating up Lucas Martins at UFC on FX 7. The dynamic Brazilian striker is once again faced with fighting an injury replacement in what will be only his 7th UFC fight. To date, Barboza has lost Darren Elkins, Evan Dunham, Justin Salas, and now Makdessi to injury.

UFC 162 is July 6th in Las Vegas, and hopefully Anderson Silva isn't actually injured (as previously rumored) and can fight Chris Weidman in the main event.
