UFC 162: Anderson Silva opens as betting favorite over Chris Weidman

The fighter that sits atop the UFC's official pound-for-pound rankings is the betting favorite over the rising middleweight star.

Kyle Terada-US PRESSWIRE

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is known as the best MMA fighter in the world, so it's not really surprising that he opened as a betting favorite for his UFC 162 title defense against Chris Weidman. It was interesting to see how close the line originally opened at though, and where it sits now just one day later. Here's a look at the current line (via BestFightOdds):

For reference, the line actually opened at -215/+165 and has moved considerably since then. Only two major sites, 5Dimes and SportBet, are offering the line so far. I'd assume that the other sites will eventually open around this level for the July 6th bout.

With the line moving so much early, people clearly think that Anderson was undervalued and jumped on it. This creates opportunity for people that believe Weidman can hand Silva his first loss though, since you'll get a lot more for your money now than you would have yesterday at opening. I'm already tempted to bet on Weidman now and might make a small wager, but I think the line might move even further in Silva's direction so I'm going to wait before I commit a large chunk of cash on Weidman.
