There's been a lot of noise over the last two days about the 16 fighters cut from the UFC, namely the release of Jon Fitch. However, it's not all bad news for Zuffa fighters, namely UFC Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. Thursday following the UFC 157 pre-fight press conference, Dana White told media members that they had just signed a new deal with Cain (via MMA Fighting):
"Obviously we're passionate about this sport, obviously we're passionate about the UFC brand, we f--- own it, OK?" White said. "We always try to do the right thing. We always try to do the right thing. We pay guys more that what their contract says we have to pay them.
"We just did, I have three fights left with Cain Velasquez. We just signed a new eight-fight deal with Cain Velasquez. We re-signed him. I didn't have do that. He deserved it, and we did it."
Velasquez last fought at UFC 155 where he took his title back from Junior dos Santos. With the win, Cain avenged the sole loss of his MMA career. He's now set to face Bigfoot Silva at UFC 160 in May. Silva earned the rematch with a stunning upset of Alistair Overeem at UFC 156.
