An all-Swedish matchup has been booked by the UFC, and it's surprisingly taking place in Sweden. Welterweights Papy Abedi and Besam Yousef will fight on the upcoming UFC on Fuel 9 card on April 6th. MMA Junkie has the news:
A welterweight bout between Swedish fighters Besam Yousef (6-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) and Papy Abedi (8-2 MMA, 0-2 UFC) is slated for UFC on FUEL TV 9.
Yousef lost his UFC debut (also in Sweden) against Simeon Thoresen by submission. He was then scheduled to fight Stephen Thompson at UFC 154 but was removed from the card after sustaining an injury.
Abedi was the #1 middleweight prospect on the 2011 Bloody Elbow Scouting Report, but when he signed with the UFC he dropped to welterweight and was instantly thrown to the wolves. He lost to Thiago Alves by submission at UFC 138, and then submitted in Sweden last year by James Head.
Presumably the loser of this fight is gone from the UFC.
UFC on FUEL TV 9 is headlined by a 205 lbs showdown between Alexander Gustafsson and Gegard Mousasi.
