UFC on Fuel 7 results: Gunnar Nelson takes decision over Jorge Santiago

Iceland's own Gunnar Nelson doesn't seem to get excited about much, but the grappling wizard looked good in picking up his second UFC win. Jorge Santiago had good spurts of striking in the first and third, but Nelson's grappling and surprising striking was too much for him. The judges had it 29-28, 29-28, and 30-27 for Nelson, who improves to 11-0-1 in his career.

Nelson woke up three seconds before he came to the cage. Santiago got off to a good start with his striking, but Nelson's unorthodox strikes started to find their mark as well. Gunnar shot in and landed a very nice takedown halfway through the round. Santiago got back to his feet and the rest of the round was engaged on the feet, albeit in a cautious fashion.

Gunnar scored a nice takedown about a minute into the second round, and managed to land a few punches will moving in and out of Santiago's guard. He finally decided to stay in guard, and quickly cut through it right to mount. Nelson blasted Santiago with elbows until the horn went.

The fighters decided to engage in the standup for the first half of the final round. Santiago looked a bit tired, but he was landing. Nelson was too, while quickly changing stances again and again. Nelson landed two big uppercuts and a a straight left that hurt Santiago. Jorge could barely stand due to a combination of damage and exhaustion, but he managed to hang on and even land some strikes over the final minute. The last 10 seconds was all Santiago, but it wasn't enough.
