In the feature bout of the UFC on Fox 9 prelims on FS1, TUF 11 winner Court McGee met Ryan LaFlare at Welterweight. Just before that, Lightweight Edson Barboza took on Danny Castillo.

Court McGee vs. Ryan LaFlare

After a few quick exchanges on the feet, LaFlare scored an early takedown on McGee. Court was able to return to his feet, but struggled to deal with LaFlare's distinct reach advantage. He was able to get through and opened up a cut on Ryan, but he took more shots than he landed. LaFlare took the second round continuing to land straight punches from outside Court's range. Late in the round LaFlare landed a straight left that opened up a deep cut on Court who ended the round with his face covered in blood. Court was undeterred heading into the third, despite eating blows he kept coming forward to land some solid punches of his own. He forced the clinch, scored takedowns and made the fight dirty on a gassing opponent.

Ryan LaFlare wins the unanimous decision (29-28 x 3) over Court McGee

Danny Castillo vs. Edson Barboza

Castillo opened with a takedown attempt that was quickly denied by Barboza. They started to size each other up from range with each landing significant blows before Castillo rocked Barboz with a big punch. Barboza was on his bicycle, but Castillo pursued and rocked him again then took it to the ground. He unleashed violent ground and pound and tried to grab a couple rear naked choke attempts. Barboza got cut on his head and covered both of them with his blood. Castillo never let off, but was not able to finish before the round ended.

Barboza completely turned it around in the second round. He started off early landing his patented leg kicks. Castillo looked slow after expending so much energy in the first. Barboza hit him with a spinning back kick to the body and just missed one to the head. Castillo couldn't close the distance and kept eating punishment. Barboza dropped him with a left hook then locked on a D'arce choke on the ground but wasn't able to finish.

Castillo looked to bring the fight to Barboza in the third. He landed a few lunging hooks while continuously eating those leg kicks. Midway through the round Barboza landed a spinning back kick to the body that completely stopped Danny in his tracks. he followed up with more blows to the body, but somehow Castillo was able to survive to the final bell.

Edson Barboza beat Danny Castillo by majority decision (29-28 x 2, 28-28)
