After far too long, the Old School MMA Review has returned! This time, The Fight Nerd and Zane Simon of Bloodyelbow.com take a look at the UFC tournament to end all tournaments (in 1995), the first Ultimate Ultimate!
In the UU '95, the best of the best were invited back to the octagon for a one-night tournament to see who was the most ultimate of the ultimates. Returning champs like Dan Severn and Oleg Taktarov battled the likes of Tank Abbott and Paul Varelans, plus Keith Hackney... for some reason. Polar bears, pit fighters, and vampire hunters who are dragons, all in this episode and more!
Excuse the robotic voice of Zane. Contrary to prior belief, Zane is not a futuristic cyborg from another dimension. We are still experimenting with different ways to record, and Google Hangout decided to be screwy and auto-tune his voice a bit, as well as add tiny boxes with us on the bottom left. Much like the early SEG UFC events, we are a work in progress.
This week, our poll question is quite timely, especially in the wake of Georges St. Pierre VS Johny Hendricks. If Marco Ruas VS Oleg Taktarov from the UU 95 was scored by todays standards, who would have won the fight? Leave your comments below and let us know what you think!
Stay tuned soon for the start of the next generation of UFC fighters at UFC 8, coming quicker than this episode did!
Who would have won Marco Ruas VS Oleg Taktarov from this event if it had been scored with modern judging?
