UFC on Fox 9: Johnson vs. Benavidez 2 fight card

New, comments

A look at the UFC's December 14th Fox-televised event from Sacramento, California, which sees Demetrious Johnson defend his flyweight title against Joseph Benavidez.

UFC on Fox 9 has been battered with injuries. Anthony Pettis pulled out of his main event title fight with Josh Thomson following a confirmed torn PCL, which is why Demetrious Johnson/Joseph Benavidez 2 has been shifted from the November 30th TUF 18 Finale to this card. It's Johnson's 3rd title defense this year and all of them have been on Fox.

The prelims have seen Ian McCall, Jamie Varner, and Kelvin Gastelum all withdraw from their respective bouts with various injuries. Replacing McCall is John Dodson versus Scott Jorgensen, Bobby Green replaces Varner against Pat Healy, while Ryan LaFlare subs in for Gastelum opposite Court McGee. All things considered, this is still a very good card from top to bottom. Urijah Faber/Michael McDonald and Carlos Condit/Matt Brown should both be outstanding bouts.

Here's the full card, which you can see live on Fox from the Sleep Train Arena (that's the actual name. I'm not joking.) from the California state capital:
