The co-main event of UFC 167 featured a Light Heavyweight fight between Chael Sonnen and former champ Rashad Evans. Evans came into the fight following a split decision win over Dan Henderson at UFC 161. He'd lost his two previous fight and many were wondering if he still had what it took to compete at the highest level. In contrast, Sonnen was coming off a huge win over Mauricio Rua at UFC Fight Night 26.
The fight looked evenly matched as the first round opened. Predictably, Chael came in for a double leg takedown, but couldn't complete it. They battled in the clinch for a while before Evans got a takedown of his own. From there, Evans was completely dominant. He advanced position and unleashed violent ground and pound. Finally, with Evans standing above Sonnen, referee Herb Dean called a stop to the action.
