Hector Lombard would like to fight Carlos Condit or Martin Kampmann

Hector Lombard is at 170 pounds to stay, and wants to fight a top 10 fighter - namely, Carlos Condit or Martin Kampmann.

Matt Roberts

Hector Lombard didn't want to drop to 170, but it has worked out for him. The former Bellator middleweight champ has stated on many occasions that it was the UFC that pushed him down a weight class and he was reluctant. He made the weight though, and picked up a knockout win over Nate Marquardt in under two minutes at UFC 166 last month. So what's next for him? In an interview with BJPenn.com Radio, Lombard stated that he'd be interested in fighting a certain former interim champion:

"I think that Carlos Condit is high ranked, right? OK, I'll take Carlos Condit."

He also stated that a bout with the man Condit just defeated, Martin Kampmann, would be just fine. He wasn't ready to discuss a bout with champion Georges St-Pierre though:

"I don't want to talk about that," Lombard said, "because, you know, I have a long time to get there. I want to get one of those guys [Condit or Kampmann] first."

He also talked about his judo skills and why he chooses to use his hands more than his judo, and confirmed that he won't be competing on the UFC Fight Night 33 card in Australia because it's already full. He finished off by waxing poetic about winning a UFC title:

"I mean my philosophy is very simple. If it's made to happen, it's gonna happen. It's an old saying that the grass that is for a particular horse, the cow is not going to eat it. You know, [I'll] keep training, be humble, and if it's meant to happen, it's gonna happen, and if it don't, I'm grateful that I could fight. So many people... they can't even fight any more, and I'm just grateful that I can keep fighting and performing and entertaining."

I've never heard that saying, but I like it.
