In past years, the UFC would holds its Super Bowl weekend card in Las Vegas. With the 2014 Super Bowl in New Jersey, the UFC is going to the Prudential Center in Newark to hold their first PPV event of the new year. Light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will defend his title vs. Glover Teixeira in the main event, while a heavyweight fight between Frank Mir and Alistair Overeem has been moved from UFC 167 to 169. Mark LaMonica of Newsday originally reported the story.

Jones (19-1) pulled off a close, thrilling decision win over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165 in what is now being regarded as one of the best title fights in UFC history. The win gave him 6 straight title defenses, surpassing Tito Ortiz for most successful defenses in the division.

Teixeira (22-2) has won 20 straight fights, and clinched his title shot with his 5th straight UFC win, a 1st round TKO of Ryan Bader. The Brazilian has finished 4 of his opponents inside the Octagon and has lost a round on only one judge's scorecard (vs. Quinton Jackson).

Mir (16-8) and Overeem (36-13, 1 NC), who were both knocked out in August, will have a few more months to prepare for a crucial bout for both men. According to the UFC, the Nevada State Athletic Commission recommended "a short postponement" for the two fighters (who have a combined 15 KO/TKO losses in MMA) so that they would have more time to train.

Expect more fights to be announced for this show in the coming weeks.
