Another Australian has been added to the UFC Fight Night 33 card, which goes down in Brisbane on December 7th. TUF Smashes winner Robert Whittaker will face off with former Strikeforce fighter Brian Melancon. MMA Kanvas originally reported the news, which was confirmed by the UFC's Australia twitter account.
Whittaker (11-3) picked up wins in his first two official UFC bouts, beating Brad Scott to win TUF Smashes and stopping TUF 15 winner Colton Smith by TKO. He dropped a decision to former TUF winner Court McGee in his last trip to the octagon. He is originally from New Zealand but fights out of Australia.
Melancon (7-3) is 1-1 in the UFC thus far. He pickied up a knockout win over Seth Baczynski in his debut, but was submitted by TUF 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Fight Night 27 in August.
The bout is likely to take place on the preliminary card of the event. The headliner will see Mark Hunt take on Antonio Silva in a heavyweight battle.
