UFC 166 results: Melendez, Sanchez, Dodson and Ferguson take home $60K in bonuses

Four fighters picked up some extra earnings for their notable efforts at UFC 166.

In the rarest of circumstances, a UFC fight card filled with promising bouts delivered with incredible action from top to bottom. UFC 166 opened with four exciting fights on Facebook, each coming with great action and finishes. With the momentum set in the earliest preliminary bouts, the rest of the card never let up. The Houston, TX event ended with Cain Velasquez holding on to his Heavyweight title with a 5th round TKO victory over former champ Junior dos Santos .

Following the show, the fight night bonus winners were announced at the post-fight press conference:

Fight of the Night: Gilbert Melendez vs. Diego Sanchez - there was really no doubt about this one. Melendez opened up a cut over Sanchez's eye early that led to a lot of bleeding and repeated doctor stoppage. As is his wont, Sanchez went full honey badger and gave Gil everything he had throughout the full 15 minutes, even dropping his fellow former Lightweight contender late in the third round. If you didn't see it live, you missed out and need to watch it.

Knockout of the Night: John Dodson vs. Darrell Montague - The PPV opening flyweight fight got a lot of boos in the first couple minutes, but the pessimistic crowd was quickly quieted. Once Dodson started landing, he never let up and finished Montague in the first round.

Submission of the Night: Tony Ferguson vs. Mike Rio - Ferguson may have won the submission bonus by default, but that doesn't take away from the awesomeness. After rocking Rio on the feet, Ferguson defended a desperate takedown attempt and immediately locked on a picture-perfect D'arce choke to get the tap.

Instead of the normal $50K, each bonus winner will receive $60K for their exceptional efforts.
