Tonight at UFC 166, two of the very best Heavyweights in mixed martial arts faced off in the main event for their rubber match. Current and undisputed champion Cain Velasquez and former champion Junior dos Santos had met twice before with each man taking a dominant victory. In their third bout, Cain once again proved to be the superior fighter with a 5th round TKO victory over a completely exhausted JDS.
With Cain 2 fights up in the series, UFC commentator Joe Rogan asked the promotion's president Dana White what was up next for the champion and White immediately responded:
We probably do Werdum. Werdum is probably next. That makes the most sense.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specialist Fabricio Werdum has been on a tear since coming to the UFC in last year. In his most recent bout he defeated rival TUF Brazil 2 coach Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira by armbar at UFC on Fuel TV 10. He's undefeated since returning to the promotion and, aside from Cain's teammate and fellow UFC 166 winner Daniel Cormier, the most qualified to compete for the heavyweight strap.
