The UFC Fight Night 29 main event welterweight bout was a close affair between Jake Shields and Demian Maia. Most had the bout even going into the final round, and Shields was able to eke out a split-decision victory based on his work in that round. There's certainly room for debate though - BE's resident play-by-play man (and managing editor) Brent Brookhouse saw the final stanza for Maia. Round 5 - Maia working underhooks after a few minutes of nothing really happening. Nothing comes of it. Shields with a few leg kicks and body kicks and even a head kick. Shields witha left hand. Maia with a left hand. Bad round. I'd go 10-9 Maia to give him the 48-47 win.
