Ronaldo Souza made a major statement in the first main card bout of the Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine event. After a curious reffing decision put the fighters back on the feet after a takedown, Jacare just took it right back down again and got a quick submission victory with a nasty kimura. The finish came at 3:10 of the very first round.
After a tepid start on the feet, Jacare ducked under and got a nice takedown. Herman landed an illegal upkick that stopped the action, but no point was taken. For some reason, the fight was restarted on the feet. Jacare opened up with some solid strikes and a front kick, and got another big takedown. Souza latched onto an arm and locked up a kimura. After securing the position and cranking away, Herman had no choice but to tap.
Herman came over from the UFC on late notice and the bout was contested at a 194-pound catchweight. It didn't faze Jacare at all though, and he'll enter the UFC on a very high note after this.
