The first UFC flyweight champion was named tonight at UFC 152, and his name is Demtrious Johnson. Mighty Mouse edged out Joseph Benavidez by split decision to claim the title in a solid back-and-forth fight that deserved more love from the fans in attendance at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The final scores were 48-47, 47-48, and 49-46. Benavidez came the closest to finishing the fight in the fourth round when he dropped Johnson and almost submitted him with a guillotine, but Demetrious survived. Round 4 - Good Johnson right hand counter. Benavidez with a big punch and Johnson is hurt. Benavidez follows up and he's trying to finish a guillotine choke. Johnson fighting like hell as Benavidez has the mount and is trying to finish off this choke. He can't get it though and Johnson tries to attack the leg but can't get it. Johnson avoids another choke and ends up back on his feet. Johnson with a nice takedown but Benavidez gets back to his feet. Johnson with a very good takedown and he's into side control. Elbows to the body by Johnson. 10-9 Benevidez as he was close to finishing twice.
