UFC Fans Owe Jon Jones $55.95 For Killing UFC 151 And Improving UFC 152

Presswire

My MMA Rant of the Day was a little late but I hope it's opinionated enough to be worth the wait.

In this one I'm making the case that fans shouldn't be mad at Jon Jones for his (alleged) role in the cancellation of UFC 151.

Some bullet points after the jump so those of you who are too lazy to watch the video can do a quick scan before jumping in the comments. The rest can just read the headline and jump straight to the comments.

SBN coverage of UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort

Here's my case in summary:

* UFC 151 was the most marginal of PPV cards even with Dan Henderson healthy. Of the 5 fights on the main card, one was cancelled, none of the other 4 have been put on other PPV cards. In fact only one of them (Ellenberger vs Hieron) even made the main card of the FX event it was moved to. The rest of them are safely buried in the prelims (one is even on a Fuel TV prelim!)

* UFC 152 is much much better because it's got Jones vs Vitor Belfort on it instead of being headlined by a Flyweight fight that only hardcores care about, we've got the biggest rising young star in the UFC on top.

* Vitor Belfort doesn't deserve a title shot but he's not significantly worse than Dan Henderson as a challenger for Jones. Sure Henderson would beat Belfort 90/100 times but he only beats Jones 1/100 and Belfort matches that punchers' chance.
