UFC Featherweight Chad Mendes was last seen by most fans in an impressive first round knock out over Cody McKenzie at UFC 148. However, it appears Mendes allegedly participated in another violent display early Friday morning. The California native is currently wanted for questioning concerning an incident at the Lacey Inn Bar in his hometown of Hanford.
According to the Hanford Sentinel:
Mendes, 27, allegedly sucker punched a patron in the face and took off running out the back door. Officials say they have not been able to locate him.
[After breaking up a different fight] authorities recognized Mendes. He appeared to be intoxicated and began cursing at the deputies and officers, authorities said. They asked him to leave. Instead, he went back inside and struck one man who "never even saw him coming," Assistant Sheriff Dave Putnam said.
Mendes then fled the scene. The officers on duty pursued but were unable to apprehend him. The authorities are saying they will issue a warrant for his arrest if Mendes does not speak with them by Monday. The Assistant Sheriff informed that the District Attorney will decide whether or not a charge of assault with a deadly weapon will be necessary given Mendes's MMA training.
