Unfortunately, Louis Gaudinot appears to have been injured, and has to pull out of his fight with Darren Uyenoyama at UFC on FX 5. In his place, we will see highly-touted European flyweight Phil Harris, who was recently signed to the UFC. MMA Junkie has the scoop:
An injury has forced Louis Gaudinot to withdraw from UFC on FX 5, officials on Wednesday announced.
In the flyweight's place steps octagon newcomer Phil Harris (21-9-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who will fight Darren Uyenoyama (7-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC).
It is unfortunate to see Gaudinot injured, but we still get a pretty intriguing matchup.
Phil "Billy" Harris, a European flyweight who has competed above his current weight class earlier in his career, is currently undefeated at 125 pounds. He boasts a strong ground game, as most of his wins have come by way of submission, accounting for 13 of his 21 professional wins. He is currently on a five fight win streak, and will look to make himself a standout in the UFC's newest division with a win here.
Darren Uyenoyama, like Harris, has a very strong and offensive grappling game, as submissions account for 3 of his 7 victories. He has very good positional awareness, and that was on full display in his UFC debut against Norifumi Yamamoto, where we saw dominant unanimous decision for Uyenoyama. Where you could argue that Harris has far more experience, you could also say that Uyenoyama's win over Yamamoto is more impressive than anyone Harris has yet to face. Uyenoyama is currently on a two fight winning streak, and he will probably be looking to beat Harris at his own game come fight time.
UFC on FX 5 is set for October 5th, 2012 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is headlined by a heavyweight bout between Travis Browne and Antonio Silva.
