The UFC keeps churning out the fight announcements, unveiling three more bouts for UFC on FX 5, which marks their first card in Minnesota since 2008. On the official card update page, UFC officials confirmed the following matchups: Justin Edwards vs. Josh Neer, Carlo Prater vs. Marcus LeVesseur, and Darren Uyenoyama vs. Louis Gaudinot.
At welterweight, TUF 13's Justin "Fast Eddy" Edwards and seasoned veteran Josh "The Dentist" Neer will meet in a submission specialist vs. TKO artist match-up.
Fans of ground wars -- and the crazy brawls that sometimes take place when two grappling specialists compete -- can look forward to the lightweight bout between BJJ black belt Carlo "Neo" Prater and powerful wrestler Marcus "The Prospect" LeVesseur. With the first UFC flyweight champion about to be crowned, the new division is moving almost as fast as the athletes who compete in it. Joining the 125-pound ranks is Darren Uyenoyama dropping from bantamweight to meet Louis Gaudinot. Both fighters are coming off career-best performances and looking to extend their hot streaks.
Edwards lost his last fight against John Maguire at UFC 138 and has been out of action all year due to injury. He's 1-2 in the UFC since losing via upkick KO against Tony Ferguson on TUF. Neer, who recently signed a new four-fight contract, is coming off a shocking KO loss to Mike Pyle ... shocking in the sense that Pyle is not a KO artist and Neer has long had the reputation of an iron chin.
Carlo Prater has been completely ineffective in his brief time in the UFC, getting dominated by Erick Silva in January but winning via DQ when Silva hit Prater with shots to the back of the head, and most recently losing a decision to T.J. Grant. LeVesseur, a decorated amateur wrestler out of Minnesota, fought on short-notice against Cody McKenzie in June, and fell victim to the McKenzietine. Both men are almost certainly fighting with their jobs on the line.
Louis Gaudinot is making his 2nd appearance at flyweight, the first was a Fight of the Night win against John Lineker at UFC on FOX 3. He competed on TUF 14 as a bantamweight and lost his UFC debut in the same weight class against Johnny Bedford. Uyenoyama attempted to make his flyweight debut at UFC on FOX 3 against John Dodson, but withdrew due to injury. His last UFC fight was a bantamweight win over Kid Yamamoto on the first FOX event last November.
