Anderson Silva defeated Chael Sonnen by TKO at 1:04 of the second round
Anderson Silva didn't get off to the best start, but he definitely put the stamp on Chael Sonnen when he got the chance. After spending the whole first round of the UFC 148 main event on his back, Silva defended the takedown in the second, took advantage of a Sonnen mistake, and rocked him with a big knee to the body on the ground that led to the end. The finish came at 1:04 of the second round.
Silva came out and threw a wild hook and was immediately taken down. Sonnen wasn't able to land a lot of GnP, but did get him towards the cage and passed to half guard. Silva did a good job of locking Sonnen down, forcing him to try and throw some weak knees to the body. Sonnen got him right against the cage and was able to open up with punches a bit. Sonnen advanced to mount with 45 seconds to go, but Anderson tied up his arms well for the rest of the round.
Sonnen came running out to start the second and pinned Anderson against the cage. Silva defended the takedown while Chael landed knees to the body. Sonnen dropped for a double leg but Anderson held him off and landed two punches. He threw a kick and almost got taken down again, but stayed up. Chael missed with a spinning backfist that sent him spiraling into the cage on the ground. Silva landed a huge knee to the body, and beat the tar out of Sonnen on the ground. Sonnen got up briefly, but went back down. Anderson continued the assault until Yves Lavigne stopped the fight.
