Alan Belcher def. Rousimar Palhares by TKO at 4:18 of the first round
Alan Belcher was in a position no one wants to be in - laying on the ground with Rousimar Palhares attached to his leg. But he was able to put his BJJ black belt to good use and escaped, then rained down some powerful ground and pound to finish Toquinho late in the first round.
Belcher walked down Palhares early, but didn't throw anything. Palhares shot in and got the takedown without much trouble. They were all twisted up in an awkward position, with Belcher looking for a twister, then a unique neck crank. Palhares sat up and looked to get a hold of his leg, and got it. Belcher was able to fight it off, but continued to play the leg lock game with Toquinho. Palhares changed it up and looked for a heel hook, but Belcher escaped.
"The Talent" sat in Palhares' full guard, looking to reign down punches. He landed a series of big elbows and opened up with more punches that hurt Toquinho pretty badly. Eventually Dan Mirgliotta had no choice but to stop the fight.
Belcher picked up his second straight win since his return from a serious eye injury, and believes that he is a top contender for a title shot. Palhares' three-fight winning streak is over.
