UFC 146 Results: Stipe Miocic Stops Shane Del Rosario In Round Two

Stipe Miocic defeated Shane Del Rosario by TKO (elbows) at 3:14 of the second round

After a first round where he ate plenty of body kicks, Stipe Miocic wisely took the fight to the ground in the second and blasted Shane del Rosario with punches and elbows until the referee was forced to step in at the 3:14 mark. The elbows were brutal, busting Del Rosario wide open and making him wince. It was a pretty good performance for Stipe and he has probably staked his claim as the UFC's top heavyweight prospect with the win.

Del Rosario opened with some solid kicks, one that glanced off the cup. Miocic closed the distance and landed a nice right. Del Rosario landed a few body kicks that had to hurt. Miocic responded by attacking with combinations. Del Rosario landed the blody kick again, then a straight left and a head kick. Stipe was right there though and landed a nice right. SDR landed a nice counter left that sent Miocic running across the cage. He landed it again against the cage and Miocic looked to tie him up against the cage. Del Rosario landed a nice left and a head kick, which led Miocic to take it the ground. He landed a big elbow, then let SDR up at the end of the round.

Del Rosario got off to a good start in the second with some kicks, but Miocic took the fight ot the ground again. He landed a big shot and looked to advance to the mount. He popped out of guard and landed some nice hammerfists, then a big right. He continued to grind away with short elbows that had Del Rosario bleeding badly. Miocic continued with the elbows until the referee was forced to jump in and stop it.

Miocic entered the bout with two straight UFC wins and an unblemished record. Del Rosario was making his UFC debut after being out of the cage for an extended period while recovering from injuries suffered in a car accident.
