Paul Sass defeated Jacob Volkmann via submission (triangle armbar) at 1:54 of the first round

Paul Sass might be a tad one-dimensional, but that dimension is pretty awesome. Jacob Volkmann dared to tangle with the British fighter on the mat and ended up getting submitted from the bottom at just 1:54 of the first round. After Sass pulled guard, Volkmann gave him the space he needed to set up a triangle and it was all over from there.

As expected, Sass pulled guard early but Volkmann locked on a guillotine. Sass looked for an omoplata from the bottom but Volkmann brushed him off. Sass got his legs up and locked on his patented triangle, then attacked an arm as well. Volkmann tapped after just a couple of seconds.

The win was Sass' third straight in the UFC and he has now submitted twelve of his 13 opponents. Volkmann had a five-fight winning streak snapped with the loss, his first at lightweight.
