Strikeforce: Barnett Vs. Cormier - Live Results And Play-By-Play For Preliminary Card

As with every major show, Bloody Elbow will be here to bring you live results, play by play and commentary for Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier. Our live coverage will start with the prelim card on Showtime Extreme (8 p.m. ET) through the Showtime main card (10 p.m. ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event.

This post will cover live results and thoughts for the Showtime Extreme preliminary card.

The prelims feature five bouts - two at lightweight, two at light heavyweight, and one at welterweight. The feature attraction is a lightweight bout between Gesias Cavalcante and Isaac Vallie-Flagg.

Bobby Green defeated James Terry via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Quinn Mulhern vs. Yuri Villefort

Round 1: Villefort caught a kick and just tossed Mulhern to the floor. He let him up. Mulhern came forward and landed a few strikes against the fence. Villefort landed a combination and a leg kick. Mulhern shot in and it looked like Villefort would shuck it off, but he fell onto his butt and Mulhern took top position. Mulhern awkwardly tried to pass guard but couldn't get much of anywhere. Mulhern stood out of guard and evaded some upkicks. He took Villefort's back briefly when he tried to get to his feet. Mulhern looked for a throw against the cage but ended up getting taken down himself. Villefort worked in Mulhern's guard for the last 45 seconds of the round. 10-9 Mulhern, but it was close.

Round 2: Villefort opens with a nice leg kick and left hook. Mulhern scooped a single leg and got the takedown. He worked in north south briefly, then swung into Villefort's half guard against the fence. Villefort briefly got up, but tried to lock up a guillotine and went back to the floor. Mulhern's bleeding. Mulhern stands up, then jump back down into side, then advanced to full mount. Villefort popped out the back, took Muhern's back, and dropped him to the ground. Villefort couldn't pass Mulhern's guard, and the referee asked for action. Mulherm locked on an omoplata and used it to regain top position briefly, but Villefort got right back on top. Villefort once again rode out the round in Mulhern's guard. 10-9 Mulhern again.

Round 3: Mulhern ducked an overhand right and landed a counter right. Mulhern shot in but Villefort flipped him over and ended up on top briefly. Mulhern popped up though and they clinched against the cage. Villefort looked for a takedown and Mulhern is the one that reversed this time. He locked up a north south choke but Villefort escaped. Mulhern ended up in side control near the cage. Mulhern landed a series of short elbows. Villefort escaped back to his feet. Mulhern looked for a takedown, but ended up on the bottom again. Mulhern looked for a heel hook but was unsuccessful. Mulhern then locked up another omoplata, then advanced to mount. Villefort went for a leglock to escape, but Mulhern took his back and landed some big rights. Mulhern jumped onto Villefort's back and got dumped for his troubles at the bell. 10-9 Mulhern and 30-27 on my card.

Gian Villante vs. Derrick Mehmen

Round 1: Mehmen lands a nice right. Villante landed an uppercut that dropped Mehmen, and jumped around to take his back against the cage. He held Mehmen down and landed some knees to the thigh. Villante held him in a sitting position against the cage but wasn't really doing anything. Mehmen eventually got back to his feet. Mehmen threw a couple of combinations, and Villante responded with a leg kick and another right uppercut. Mehmen waded forward and both fighters connected. Villante landed a big looping right that stunned Mehmen briefly. Mehmen tried to establish his jab. Villante glanced a head kick off Mehmen's dome. 10-9 Villante.

Round 2: Mehmen landed a nice body shot. Villante cornered Mehmen but couldn't connect with anything solid. Mehmen lands a nice combination and shot in but Villante swatted him away. Mehmen looked for his own uppercut. Villante landed a two-punch combination and a leg kick. Mehmen caught the next kick but couldn't do anything with it. Villante got picked in the eye. After a brief break, they got back to it. Mehmen jabbed away while Villante kicked at both legs. Mehmen chased Villante around while throwing some lefts. Villante throws a punch-kick combination that tripped Mehmen to the mat, but he popped back up. Villante landed a nice jab. Mehmen landed an overhand right, but ate two jabs and an uppercut before the bell. 10-9 Villante.

Round 3: Mehmen looked to be showing some urgency early, but ate a big punch from Villante and backed off. Villante went back to the leg kicks. Mehmen threw a lot but didn't connect with much. Mehmen caught another kick and looked for a takedown but ate two uppercuts. Villante landed a three-punch combination followed by a solid leg kick. Mehmen came forward again and actually landed a few times. Nothing deadly though. Villante looked a little bit tired. Villante landed a nice jab. Mehmen landed an uppercut but Villante came back with one himself. Nice jab and right hook from Villante. Mehmen landed a knee to the body and an overhand right. Villante responded with a straight right. Mehmen shot in and got Villante to his knees against the cage, then took his back right as time ran out. 10-9 Villante and the clean sweep for me, 30-27.

Gian Villate defeated Derrick Mehmen via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

Virgil Zwicker vs. Guto Inocente

Round 1: Inocente opened things with a big leg kick. Zwicker backed him up and landed a couple of punches against the cage. The fighters clinched against the cage and Inocente landed a punch and knee. Zwicker landed a nice right. Zwicker missed with a spinning back kick. Inocente landed three kicks in a row, then a huge head kick that stunned Zwicker. Zwicker immediately shot in but was reversed. Inocente locked up a guillotine but let it go to land some punches. Back on the feet, Inocente landed another kick, some punches, and a spinning back kick. Then a big knee. It's amazing that Zwicker is still in this fight. Another huge knee. Zwicker shot in against the fence but couldn't get anything. Zwicker with a spinning backfist and missed with a spinning kick. Inocente with a glancing headkick and another big knee. Zwicker wrapped up a body lock and threw Inocente to the ground. Zwicker took his back briefly but Inocente got back up. Zwicker has heart for days. 10-8 Inocente.

Round 2: Zwicker looked a little fresher to start the second. Inocente went for a head kick but slipped and Zwicker took top position. Zwicker landed a couple of punches but couldn't do much. He got back to his feet, then fell back into Inocente's guard. Inocente booted him off and they reset in the middle. Inocente landed a nice combination but Zwicker came back with a solid right. Inocente with a solid knee once again. Zwicker caught a kick and pushed Inocente against the cage. Inocente used a body lock to drag Zwicker to the ground. He landed three rights with Zwicker on his knees, then a huge spinning backfist once he was back up. This dude is getting destroyed, but he just keeps coming. Inocente looked to be getting a bit tired as well. Inocente looked for a throw against the cage but Zwicker fought it off and landed some punches from behind. Zwicker looked for a takedown but it wasn't there. Inocente just walked away with five seconds to go like the round was over, and Zwicker charged him. Nothing came of it though. 10-9 Inocente.

Round 3: Both fighters were breathing heavily to start the final round. Inocente landed a knee in the clinch. Nice combination and a kick from Inocente. Zwicker caught a kick and landed a big right. Inocente started to back off a bit. Inocente locked up the thai clinch and landed a couple of knees. Zwicker looked for a takedown but couldn't get it to the floor. Inocente landed two nice uppercuts in close. Zwicker with a nice spinning backfist. Zwicker caught another kick but Inocente backed him against the cage and threw some more knees. Both fighters land left hooks. Zwicker threw some sloppy punches that missed badly. Zwicker landed another spinning backfist and a superman punch. Inocente landed a punch and inside leg kick. Zwicker came forward with a left and two rights. Inocente landed a big jumping knee. They just straight up threw down for the last 10 seconds. Hell of a fight. 10-9 Inocente and I've got him winning with a 30-26 score.

Guto Inocente defeated Virgil Zwicker via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)

Gesias Cavalcante vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg

Round 1: IVF threw a winging right and Cavalcante countered with a solid combination. Vallie-Flagg missed with two head kicks. JZ with a big leg kick. Cavalcante ran in and scored a takedown. JZ worked his way around to the back and looked to sink a choke. He switched to the front against the cage and looked for a guillotine. IVF got back to the feet but ate a knee on the way up. Vallie-Flagg landed a glancing right. JZ with a nice uppercut in the clinch. Vallie-Flagg scored with a couple of front kicks. Vallie-Flagg bounced off the fence and landed a jumping knee. Solid body kick from IVF. JZ with a big shot that made Vallie-Flagg back off, but he landed another jumping knee. 10-9 Cavalcante.

Round 2: JZ landed a nice left hook and a leg kick, then took a kick to get the takedown. JZ worked in half-guard with a few punches. He looked to advance to mount but Vallie-Flagg escaped out the back. The fighters exchanged kicks on the feet. JZ with a solid two-punch combination to the body. IVF responds with his own combo and a body kick. Vallie-Flagg missed with a wild right that made Cavalcante smile. JZ missed with a takedown attempt. Overhand right to the ear from Vallie-Flagg. A jumping knee from Vallie-Flagg was blocked. Vallie-Flagg put together another nice combination and started to get to JZ's chin with more regularity. IVF with a short uppercut inside. JZ landed a jab after the bell and immediately apologized. Very close round. I'll go Vallie-Flagg 10-9, but barely.

Round 3: The fighters exchange left hooks to open the final round. JZ ducked under a punch and looked for a takedown. Vallie-Flagg shucked him off and connected with two straight lefts. JZ pushed Vallie-Flagg against the fence but got reversed. IVP with a right and an uppercut. Vallie-Flagg strafed JZ with a series of elbows against the fence. IVF with a front kick right to the face. First half of the round was all Vallie-Flagg. Solid combination and another front kick from Isaac. Cavalcante looked tired. More standing elbows against the cage. Cavalcante finally catches him with a straight right. IVF elbows yet again. Vallie-Flagg worked hard against the cage with short strikes to the body. Another big jumping knee and a front kick. Yet another jumping knee, but that one missed. Solid left hook and uppercut to close it out from Vallie-Flagg. 10-9 Isaac Vallie-Flagg, and I have him winning 29-28. The second round is key.

Isaac Vallie-Flagg defeated Gesias Cavalcante via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Jumping over to the main card post now folks. Solid undercard, even with no finishes.
