A lightweight bout is the latest addition to the UFC on Fuel 3 card planned for May 15th in Fairfax, Virginia. MM-Eh.ca has confirmed with T.J. Grant's camp that the Canadian grappler will face Carlo Prater on that card:
TJ Grant (17-5) will make his return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship Octagon on May 15 at UFC on FUEL 3 against Carlo Prater (30-10-1), sources close to Grant’s camp have told MM-eh.
After finding mixed results in the UFC's welterweight division, Nova Scotia's T.J. Grant made his first cut down to lightweight back in the fall, and it was a successful move as he tapped Shane Roller, a talented grappler in his own right, with an armbar at UFC on Versus 6. Although injuries have kept Grant on the shelf since, his durability and high-level grappling should get him right back into the mix at 155 lbs.
Prater, a longtime veteran of the sport, finally made his UFC debut in his native Brazil last month at UFC 142, but in a somewhat controversial bout with hot prospect Erick Silva, Prater ended up getting his hand raised despite getting blitzed by a series of strikes from Silva in the first round, as referee Mario Yamasaki declared that many of Silva's blow landed on the back of the head, and thus disqualified him. Nonetheless, Prater probably wasn't any happier with the "victory" than the fans were, and now he'll get another chance to prove himself and at his more natural weight of 155 lbs.
