MMA fight news has been awfully quiet the last few days because of the Christmas holidays, but we've jumped right back into reporting injuries. Dutch fighter Michael Kuiper was scheduled to fight Thiago Perpetuo at UFC on FX 7 in Brazil, but Thiago was injured and withdrew. Caio Magalhaes replaced him ... but now he's out with an injury and Kuiper is off the card entirely. He has a new opponent on a different card according to MMA Junkie:
Kuiper (12-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) initially was slated to fight Jan. 19 at UFC on FX 6 against Caio Magalhaes (5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), who himself was a replacement for Thiago Perpetuo (9-1-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC).
However, Magalhaes also is injured, so Kuiper now will fight a week later at UFC on FOX 6, where he meets fellow middleweight Buddy Roberts (12-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC), UFC officials today announced.
Kuiper is coming off a very impressive showing against Jared Hamman at UFC 150, a fight that saw Kuiper brutally attack Hamman's legs before finishing off a clearly wounded Jared in the 2nd round. That offset his unsuccessful debut against Rafael Natal, although he nearly came from behind in the final round of that fight after badly hurting Natal on the feet.
Roberts, not to be confused with the recently deceased pro wrestler, fought former #1 middleweight contender Yushin Okami on short notice on that very same UFC 150 card in Denver. Unlike Kuiper, Roberts didn't win that night and was predictably dominated en route to a TKO loss in the 2nd round. Roberts did defeat Caio Magalhaes (who Kuiper was supposed to face next) by unanimous decision in his promotional debut.
This middleweight bout will likely take place on the Facebook portion of the preliminary card of UFC on FOX 6. Mark your calendars for January 26th for this and 11 other fights from Chicago, IL.
