The fight announcements keep coming from Bellator. As we detailed last week, the company is clearly looking to stack their debut season on Spike TV, filling their upcoming January shows with title fights. Now, they've added another.
On Februray 14, the Bellator Bantamweight championship will be on the line as champion Eduardo Dantas faces Marcos Galvao.
Dantas (14-3 MMA; 4-0 Bellator) won the title from Zach Makovsky in April. This will be his first title defense, as he's been inactive in Bellator since winning the belt. He did however take one non-Bellator fight, losing in an upset to Tyson Nam in Brazil. Galvao (13-5-1 MMA; 4-2 Bellator) won his title shot earlier in 2012 defeating Luis Nogueira in the tournament final.
One interesting aspect to this fight is that the two men are former teammates at Nova Uniao, where they were also friends. While Galvao is now primarily training in New York, the two maintain a friendship, and know each other well. It will be interesting to see how that plays out inside the cage.
Also on the card will be the opening round of the Middleweight tournament, though no fights have yet been announced.
And in one final Bellator fight announcement, the company announced 3 of the 4 Lightweight tournament quarterfinals to be held on January 31, and as you would expect, there are some exciting names involved. Here are the current cards for both January 31 and February 14, and check out the rest of the Bellator season as it stands so far:
