Coming up on March 3, the UFC will be heading back to Japan for the UFC On Fuel 8 event. As we reported earlier tonight, Diego Sanchez announced that he'll return to the 155 lb. division to face former top Lightweight Takanori Gomi that night. Since then, it has been announced that the event also picked up it's headliner.
From MMA Weekly:
The headline fight will take place in the middleweight division as former Pride champion Wanderlei Silva battles American hero Brian Stann.
Brian Stann (12-5) is 4-2 as a UFC Middleweight. He rose quickly in the division by finishing all four of his winning efforts. However, he's struggled to find his footing at the top of the 185 lb. division, losing two of his last three to Chael Sonnen and most recently Michael Bisping at UFC 152.
Wanderlei Silva (34-12-1, 1 NC) is nothing short of a legend of the sport. He dominated in Pride FC sporting wins over great fighters like Quinton Jackson, Kazushi Sakuraba, and Dan Henderson. But Wandy has not been as successful since coming to the UFC. He's 5-3 since coming to the UFC, but an even 2-2 since dropping down to 185. He's coming off a decision loss to Rich Franklin at UFC 147 where he put on a great performance and almost finished the former MW champ.
