Thiago Silva suspended for six months after testing positive for marijuana metabolites

Yet again Thiago Silva has failed his post-fight drug test following a win. This time it's for marijuana metabolites after his 3rd round submission win against Stanislav Nedkov.

For the 2nd time in as many wins, UFC light-heavyweight Thiago Silva is in trouble. Against Brandon Vera in 2011 he was caught using a urine adulterant, and as a result lost his win against Vera and was suspended for a year. Now having won via 3rd round submission against Stanislav Nedkov, he's been busted for marijuana metabolites according to Mike Bohn.

Rehab for marijuana? I've seen that before...

Whether or not Silva's win gets overturned to a no-contest is pretty much up to the UFC, as there was no athletic commission for the Macau card. Chances are he probably will have the result overturned, and that would mean he technically hasn't won since August 2009 when he stopped Keith Jardine.

Having alternated losses with drug test disasters, it's very possible the UFC considers releasing him, especially considering he's not sniffing a title shot any time soon. At the very least he's surely on a short leash.

UPDATE: According to MMA Junkie, Silva will not face any fines, but he will have his win overturned.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) later confirmed with UFC officials that Silva was not issued any financial penalty. However, the result of the bout will be overturned to a "no decision."
